Twins are 12 days old/ Derek's Health
Can't believe my babies are 12 days old already. Where has time gone?!? I know people have said how exhausting having one baby can be, but two is possibly a nightmare... Although they are very much loved! They say the first 6 months to a year with twins is a big blur and now I know why. There is very little sleep when you have to meet the demands of two different newborns. The only thing that keeps you going is seeing their precious faces at 3 a.m and that gives you the energy to keep pushing through the next day.
So much has happened since the day babies arrived. Adjusting to the new lifestyle and also adjusting to news of Derek's health. The day after babies were born he spent the day at the U of I hospital doing testing and scans since he got a positive white blood cell test back for Anca. After much testing and anxiously (scarily) waiting the results, we learned that Derek has Wegener's Disease (not Wagner's). We weren't sure of the severity as worst case could lead to death if it reaches kidneys and lungs. The whole week babies and I were in the hospital was very scary not knowing the outcome of things . After x rays and scans we learned that it has only affected the face so far. They are watching him closely to make sure he doesn't lose vision in his left eye as it keeps getting wonky. This disease can cause blindness and is a possibility for him if not careful. Starting this month he will be undergoing infusion treatments at the chemo center to help try and put things back into remission. We are hoping this all works out so he can just be medicated to maintain his health and enjoy life a little more with babies. He has been struggling every day to feel good and even get out of bed at times. Going to work is a great challenge, but he does what he can. We are unsure if what the future holds with this, but are hopeful that things will get better. For now, we hold on tight an are in for the ride.. I will try and keep things together with the help of others for the days Derek will be ill and unable to help out or work. No time to panic, but to keep strong and move forward!
For now, I am going to enjoy my family we have finally been blessed with and sleep as much as possible!

They're Here!!
Our little miracles have arrived!! We are beyond thrilled and glad to finally have them to hold in our arms.
We arrived at the hospital on 5 am Tuesday March 26th and had our babies just two short hours later via C-section. I was very nervous about the whole process, but once I heard their cries it took all my fears away. Gage Michael Kasal was born at 7:11 am Weighing 6 pounds even and 18 inches long. Zoey James Kasal was born one minute later at 7:12 am Weighing in at 5 pounds 2 ounces and 17 1/2 inches long. We spent the next 3 1/2 days in the hospital healing and enjoying everything about them. My focus was nursing as much as possible, but also enjoying all the nurses who waited hand and foot on me while I could!
These babies are the most precious thing we could have ever asked for in life. We are beyond thrilled to share the news with everyone while enjoying every minute of their new lives. I have always loved working with children, but this is a whole new amazing ball game!

In our 37th week
Just realized I haven't blogged in awhile. We are soo concentrated on getting these babies here that I have neglected to update those who read. Things are going very well (too well as always). You would have thought it didn't take us almost 6 years to get pregnant. I seem to carry these babies well!
Had our last ultrasound on the 12th to see the position of babies for birth. Baby boy is still head down and getting into position and baby girl is breech. I am fine with that since he can be pushed out first and then the doctor can turn her, hopefully... Both babies were measuring very similar and right on target. Looking much bigger and pudgier than last ultrasound. Crazy how big they can grow in just three weeks!
Anyways, we continue to wait and see when they want to arrive. It's possible the ob will decide on induction since I am very big and uncomfortable. Last week I was measuring 42 weeks.. Wonder how big I am today. 12-15 pounds of baby on top of fluids can be very stressful on a tummy!

29 weeks, oh my!
Where does the time go?? I was told once we got past the holidays it will seem like there isn't much time left before babies come.. Whoever told me that was right! We have up to 10 weeks left before our little boy and I girl get here. It sounds like the OB is giving us until 35-36 weeks tops so we will be impressed to make it farther.
We had an OB appointment last week (Wednesday) and I was measuring 33 weeks. I passed my Glucose test, got my RH shot (shot for people with negative blood types) and got an ultrasound all this week. It seems that things are picking up the closer we get. I officially have reached my two week appointment periods. This means I go back again next week already. Then I will start my stress tests the week after. It sounds like I will go twice a week to keep tabs on these little ones and make sure there is plenty of room in there for them to grow.
Ultrasound on Monday went very well. Both babies were measuring a week ahead, YAY!! Baby boy weighed in at 2 pounds 14 ounces and baby girl weighed in at 2 pounds 13 ounces. Keeping very equal to size. I was happy to hear that both babies were head down since baby girl was breech last ultrasound. Grandma Laurie went with me since daddy had to work. I felt bad that he had to miss this one because it was the funniest one yet. Baby girl pulled her feet up to brothers face and kept kicking him. Though, I felt bad, it was adorable watching his happy face frown up and look like he was crying. It was the most heart melting moment yet. Luckily we caught some action on pictures and video to share. We absolutely can't wait for them to get here, but there is plenty to be done until then for sure.
We finally have our baby shower this weekend. Very excited to get a chance to experience one. Can't wait to see everyone! Then it's time to tie down and finish our house chores so things are organized for when babies come home. We also have our breast feeding class next week so hoping we learn a lot more than we already know. Can never be too prepared to keep the determination going!!

Genders
Merry Christmas!! We have finally told everyone what the genders of the twins are.. One boy and one girl! We are a purple and green kind of family. Not into the pinks and blues as so many people use those colors too much.
Had another ultrasound yesterday (Christmas Eve). Things are looking great. We are 25 weeks today and the babies are healthy. Can't ask for much more than that. We went in hoping to see what their little faces look like now that they are more developed. Little girl was all about the camera this time and little boy was hiding his face the whole time.. believe it or not, he had his face hidden in his sisters butt! Haha. Can't wait to share that with him when he is older. Will have to post that picture to show as well. Hard to believe our due date is 15 short weeks away. We are hoping to make it to full term, but we also know that with twins things can happen earlier than you want. I am healthy and so are babies so this is what we have to go off of for now!

24 Weeks (Picture)
Today marks 24 weeks! We are very thrilled to be this far along with the twins. We had an OB apt. last week and all looked well. I was measuring at 27 weeks (four weeks ahead of schedule). Hard to be small with two bodies and eight punching/kicking limbs inside of you. Yes, they are officially movers. One in particular beats on me way more than the other one. It seems the positioning is making it easier for me to feel that one. Last night it was actually dragging it's body across my belly. Such a weird thing to see. I am gaining weight like crazy now. Not sure where it all is going other than the belly. I am starting to maybe look a little chunkier in the face, but for sure have most of it in the front.
To end, here are some photo's from our previous scans (19 Weeks so much bigger now). We are happy to see them and know how healthy they are every time!
